Highlights
Patricia (Pat) has shown continuous dedication to the Canadian payroll community over the years as a member, volunteer, leader and spokesperson. Pat's payroll career began in 1976, when she processed the payroll for a Vancouver dental office using a one-write system. Pat joined the CPA in 1987 and began volunteering in 1992, holding a number of positions, including Ottawa Branch Chair, Co-chair for the 1994 CPA National Conference held in Ottawa, and Ontario Regional Chair. She has also held positions on various committees and task forces, including the Mandates Task Force. On the professional side, Pat holds a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and English from McGill University and achieved her Payroll Manager (PM) Certification in 1998. Pat was elected to the CPA Board of Directors in 2000. In 2003, she was elected to the Executive Committee. Pat has instructed the core payroll courses of the CPA's previous certification program and has taught and developed the content of the Association's new certification program. As well, Pat also facilitates a number of the CPA's Professional Development Seminars (PDS). Currently Pat works at the CPA National Office in Toronto as the Certification Content Developer. From the May/June 2006 DIALOGUE article: "The recent CPM graduation ceremonies were very special occasions for me because of my commitment to, and involvement with, the new certification program; it was so gratifying to be able to share the pride of the graduates and of their families, employers and supporters. Most graduates had a special glow about them-it was an honour to share with them that very important moment in their payroll careers... I would like to encourage CPMs and other members to register online as a subject matter expert (SME); it is through involvement with the Association that they will reap the true benefits of membership."
