Gilles Coulombe (right) accepts his Special Contributor Award from CPA President Patrick Culhane at the 2008 National Conference in Montreal, QC.

Highlights

From 2008 Speech by Patrick Culhane, presenting Gilles with the Special Contributor Award:

Gilles worked in sales and marketing in banking for 30 years and was an active CPA volunteer when he retired.

However, his retirement was very short-lived because he was soon approached by the CPA to “fill in” as a Regional Coordinator to help the organize the Fall 1994 seminars. What started out as a temporary job with the CPA grew into a second career that spanned a decade.

During that decade, he contributed to the double-digit growth of the CPA's professional development seminars – growing the seminar program from 18 to over 40 a year, and quadrupling the membership in his region from under 200 to over 1,100 members by 2005.

Always up for challenge, in 2002, he became the Manager of Programs and Service Delivery. He worked with the other Regional Coordinators to improve member services, and developed new strategic alliances with leading organizations such as the Chartered Accountants here in Quebec.

If you have not had an argument with this guy, you have never worked with him. Although he has been “officially” retired from the CPA for 2 years – he has graciously worked at the Conference desk all this week – just so we could surprise him tonight.

It is our delight to present this award for his contributions to the advancement of the payroll profession to our colleague and friend – “Mr. Payroll in Quebec” – Gilles Coulombe.
