Topic Description
An employee’s final pay often involves special considerations with regards to outstanding vacation, payments in lieu of notice, retiring allowances, statutory deductions, pension plans and year-end reporting. Are you compliant with the various and often complex calculation and reporting requirements?
Payroll practitioners have a big responsibility to ensure that they meet all outstanding entitlements and legislative requirements when paying and reporting all final wages upon termination. From the straightforward payment of the final hours worked and any outstanding overtime to the more complex calculation of vacation pay and payments in lieu of notice, this seminar will look at the various requirements across all jurisdictions in Canada.
Join us as we take a closer look at some crucial differences between payments in lieu of notice/ termination pay, severance, retiring allowances and salary continuance. Test your knowledge on how to treat other payments and services that often form part of the negotiated termination settlements including legal fees, benefits and counselling.
We will also briefly explore certain requirements that arise when the exiting employee was a member of a pension plan, as well as the special deduction and reporting requirements following the death of an employee.
