Topic Description
Are you aware of your obligations related to the hours of work
legislation in Ontario?
Payroll practitioners who are responsible for Ontario payrolls have
a big responsibility in ensuring that their organization is compliant
with the legislation related to hours of work. Hours of work
legislation under the Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000,
and related regulations covers more than when someone is entitled to
overtime. It also includes maximum hours, minimum hours, averaging
hours, compressed workweeks and rest periods.
Join the CPA for this informative web seminar that will explore the
legislative aspects of hours of work and how that correlates to the
administration of an organization’s employment policy and
practices. The session will focus on the Ontario legislation related to
hours of work and overtime and will examine the following issues and
questions:
- Maximum hours
- Minimum hours (call-in pay)
- Averaging hours
- Approval process for excess hours and averaging
overtime
- Compressed workweek
- Rest periods (daily, weekly or bi-weekly)
- Overtime
- How to calculate the regular rate in various situations
- A closer look at some of the more intricate details and
applications of the legislation, including exemptions and special
rules
This informative two-hour session will include a 50-minute
presentation, responses to pre-submitted questions and an open forum to
ask your questions to the facilitator.
Participants are encouraged to submit their questions in advance by
emailing them to syeda@payroll.ca
before August 16, 2010.
