What is CPM Certification?

The CPM certification provides a valuable credential and the management skills needed by experienced PCP certification holders to advance their career in payroll management. New students must have at least two years of experience with responsibility for an organization's payroll function (obtained in the past five years) including being accountable to management for the accuracy of employees' pay and all government statutory remittances, or equivalent experience.

How do I become CPM Certified?

Each CPM student must submit a Payroll Experience Prerequisite Application and receive approval from the Canadian Payroll Association prior to enrolling in the Introduction to Payroll Management course. This prerequisite ensures students have the experience required to be successful in the payroll management program.

CPM certification requires five core courses and two years of related work experience:

  1. Introduction to Payroll Management (Prerequisites: Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification and payroll experience. click here.)
  2. Managerial Accounting *
  3. Compensation & Benefits Management *
  4. Organizational Behaviour Management*
  5. Applied Payroll Management (Prerequisites: Introduction to Payroll Management)

* Study directly through a post-secondary institution

A minimum pass grade of 65% for each course and the payroll experience requirement ensure the CPM certification is highly valued by employers. As a certified professional, you are required to maintain membership with The Canadian Payroll Association, adhere to the Association's Code of Professional Conduct, and participate in ongoing professional education essential to keep current and compliant.
